The Cheltenham Festival Goes International
From Andrea J: March 2016

Time surely flies and as we are already heading towards the beginning of the Cheltenham Festival. This very prestigious festival is a must in the National Hunt racing calendar that takes place in the UK every year without a fault. In the past and nowadays as well this is the event where many of the best British and Irish trained horses race against each other, meaning that the level of the competition is really very high. Just look up on how many articles, interviews and videos Emma Spencer on 888sport covers extensively the Cheltenham Festival, she is including race analysis and trainers interviews. This is a big event coming up and all horse racing lovers are looking forward to it even here in Aussie land.

Once of the big attractions of the Cheltenham Festival is in the fact that it features many Grade I races including the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase and World Hurdle. The meet definitely brings the bets out as large amounts of money are gambled during Cheltenham Festival week with the competition and betting fields being quite large. Second during Cheltenham Festival the atmosphere is just amazing, most notably the "Cheltenham roar", the crowd is very involved in the races, this is not tennis, people watch and give thunderous applause and make noise as the starter signals the beginning of the first race of the festival. Third, this is a big event, more than 230,000 people attend the festival every year and 250 million pounds are expected to be bet during the festival. This year the number of people attending the festival can even be above 230,000, we will just have to wait and see.

The 2016 Gold Cup is one of the premier races of the Cheltenham Festival, it takes place every March, this is the for all to see, and it always provides excitement, both because of the races and the betting odds of several well priced horses to choose from. Last year Coneygree was the winner of the Gold Cup, and was the first "novice chaser" to win the race in more than 40 years, which was a record in itself. For those who are unfamiliar with The Gold Cup it is run over three miles and two furlongs on the Cheltenham Racecourse. This is not an easy race, not that there are many who are easy!

Don't miss this event, it can be followed even from Australia so be sure to check out this great display of racing. If you want to get more in depth with your handicapping of the chasers you can check out some of the Gold Cup trial races. They include: The Betfair Chase, The Charlie Hall Chase, The Hennessy Gold Cup, The King George Chase, The Lexus Chase, The Argento Chase, The Irish Hennessy Gold Cup, and The Betfair Denman Chase. Good luck to every one!
