Magic Circle heads strong British Melbourne Cup raid

The Melbourne Cup is one of the biggest and best horse racing events in the entire world, and many horses head down under to take part in the race. This season, we look set to have a very strong British challenge heading down, both in terms of numbers and quality. Heading those travelling from the UK is Magic Circle, a horse who has been a huge improver this season, and one that has specifically targeted the Melbourne Cup since the spring.

The horse ran well in 2017 but, since moving to new trainer Ian Williams before the 2018 campaign, he has been a revelation. He won the Chester Cup with ease, a big UK handicap before stepping up to win a Group Three race by the same six-length distance. To give him an even bigger chance of winning the race, Corey Brown has been booked to ride, a man who knows what it takes to win the big race after winning aboard Rekindling last season. This also shows that Brown believes the horse has a great chance of winning the race, nailing his colours to the mast from a very early stage, and making it clear which horse he wants to be on.

The Melbourne Cup is a huge betting race and millions will be wagered on the event both on the day and in advance of the race. When betting really begins to hot up, you can expect to see Magic Circle towards the head of the market, even though the horse is trained in the UK. Australians have a great respect for foreign raiders, and the horse is sure to be popular with punters, especially now last year's winning jockey has been booked. Of course, the challenge from Australian horses is going to be strong, and there is a score to settle as the Irish dominated last year's event; the home team will be looking to fight back here.

Bookmakers will begin to accept bets on the race over the coming weeks, and they can expect a flood of wagers coming in. The Unibet betting offer will allow you to place a bet on the race in advance, meaning that, on the day, you can sit back and relax knowing your wagers are on. A big day like the Melbourne Cup is a day you want to watch either in person or on the TV, without worrying about placing a wager.

Something you will always get with the Melbourne Cup is value when betting. The race has a huge field, allowing you to place each way bets and get paid out should your horse not win the race. Look out for good each way terms, where you can be paid out even if your horse finishes fourth in the race, and this is certainly something you should consider taking advantage of. Finding the winner can be incredibly tough but, with each way betting, you can be a winner without picking the winner.
