Champion galloper Northerly has died after a colic attack in his retirement paddock at Busselton. He was 15.
The gelding, who is recognised as WA's greatest racehorse, earned stakes totalling $9.3 million.
He won two Cox Plates, two Australian Cups and a Caulfield Cup for trainer Fred Kersley from 2001-03.
In 2003 he was crowned Australian Horse Of The Year and was later elected to the Australian Racing Hall Of Fame.
