There were nine trifectas which paid $1000 or more. Not once did the New South Wales tote give you the biggest payout.

But the New South Wales tote gave you the lowest payout on six of those nine occasions!

How would you feel about collecting $3,922 in the seventh at Eagle Farm? Maybe quite thrilled at first until you find out the other states paid $19,164 and $10,576.

There seems to be a clear trend developing. It probably means if you are going for big trifecta collects you should leave the New South Wales tote alone.

What has happened?

Some weeks ago the New South Wales TAB introduced flexi bet. For example it previously cost $120 with dollar units or $60 with 50 cents units to box six horses in all trifecta combinations. Now a punter can get those same combinations for $12 and get one tenth of the dollar dividend payout.

The New South Wales TAB has made it easier to get those elusive trifectas. A punter who could not afford say $1000 in an absolutely wide open race with a big field can now go up and say, "Give me $50 worth of those trifecta combinations that cost $1000." Get the idea?

Because there is no bonus given to punters by the New South Wales tote - they haven't reduced their trifecta take out by one cent, have they?- the big, elusive trifectas will be shared by many more punters. This means the trifectas have been devalued.

The best way to give yourself a chance of beating the tote's huge cut on trifectas is to get over the odds by aiming for collects that the other tote punters ignore. But if this trend continues on the New South Wales tote then it will be very difficult to do on the New South Wales tote.

On the basis of what we are seeing we suggest that smart, serious trifecta punters monitor the New South Wales trifecta payouts very carefully. You may need to bet elsewhere.
