Evander's Outstanding Win

In a 2YO Open at Eagle Farm over 1400 metres Evander started from the widest barrier, 14, in the field. He settled midfield and Larry Cassidy, possibly not the most reliable of jockeys these days, found himself trapped wide throughout. Evander looked no chance when Dutch Harry kicked away in the straight. However Evander got up to win in brilliant style.

The $2.80 looked pretty skinny odds. This well bred Octagonal colt went around at $2.25 and $2.80 at his other two starts which he lost. He already looks like a hype horse and you will need to be wary about taking under the odds if you back him.

Saturday Fever - call the doctor!

Last Saturday supporters of Saturday Fever at Morphettville expected a repeat performance of his excellent win two weeks earlier.

On Saturday the two year old colt worked early to obtain the lead. Once there Damien Oliver controlled the race setting a very slow tempo. Despite that the colt was gone by the home turn and battled into a well beaten third. He couldn't win twice in a row from barrier 11. You could justify the $7.00 on May 5, but not the $2.10 starting price last Saturday.

If horses have terrible barrier draws taking short odds about them is a guaranteed way to lose money long term. You either back against them or leave the race alone.
