Victory Vein Wins
Was it a
"Stunning Performance"?

Continued from previous page

The Sky Racing host noted the finish by Chatelaine and said "Taking off plenty of late ground was Chatelaine" and left it at that. After his praise of Victory Vein's win he could hardly add that Victory Vein fell in.

Victory Vein's win was in the time of 1:09.93. The colts and geldings version of the race, held straight after, was won by Snowland in the fast time of 1:08.97, only 0.37 seconds outside the track record. Snowland's winning time was approximately six lengths faster than Victory Vein. That time was set up by speed machine Star Of Florida, who fought on well for a close third. At present Star Of Florida looks absolutely devastating up to 1100 metres. That extra 100 metres may cause a few problems against the best.

There's no doubting the class of Victory Vein. She has now had nine wins and two seconds from 12 starts. She has also won over 1.6 million dollars in prize money. She has clearly come back well from her spell and should be a force as a 3YO filly. Many of the 2YO stars do not succeed when three.

But let's not get carried away with Victory Vein's win. Even her jockey Danny Beasley made excuses saying that after picking them up in only a few strides she knew she'd won and she was smiling for the photo. Are horses human?

Victory Vein tired badly and fell in. But that is still not to deny that it was a good win, because after all she did finish ahead of quality opposition.

It's interesting to note that when obscure horses win in midweek, getting very tired as they approach the winning post, the racecallers and other commentators usually say they fell in. They do not laud the win with superlatives.
