Many astute punters use a simple horse racing betting system to back plenty of winners at excellent odds, as well as successfully betting trifectas, first fours, doubles etc. They simply note the key runs of a few select horses each week and black book them. Then betting smart, they follow them.

Each week we will give some runs worth noting by horses from Saturday's racing. Keep a record of the horses, bet smart and you too could back some big winners.

Caulfield

Umgeton:
This 2YO filly resumed from a spell of nearly five months with the record of two wins from two starts in the country. Sent out at $12.00 at Caulfield, Umgeton had no luck. On straightening Umgeton was held up for clear running then had difficulty getting any sort of run after passing the 200. She finished fourth, only 2.5 lengths behind Curtana. This filly could be at generous odds next start and with luck in running could put in a big "form reversal."

Lucy's Cash:
This 3YO filly didn't have the best of luck in running, including being tightened for room at the 850. She finished second, beaten only a half neck by Big Spirit.

Lordoftheparrots:
This promising 3YO gelding was sent out as the $3.20 favourite. Lordoftheparrots was held up round the home turn and then couldn't get a run in the straight. Lordoftheparrots, who was having his fourth race start, finished three lengths behind the winner, The Big Steel, in seventh. Forget that Lordoftheparrots ever went around and hope you get some generous odds about it next start.

Lucky Thunder:
This Danny O'Brien trained 4YO entire started at $13.00. Jockey Craig Williams rode Lucky Thunder wide throughout without cover. The horse finished second to $17.00 winner Sacred Orders. Lucky Thunder was a good thing beaten. He will be fourth up next start and primed to win.
