Was This Horse Disappointing?

By now we hope our regular readers realise they should treat horse racing comments from the multi million dollar media establishment with care.

Another example was last Saturday - an off the cuff comment by Sky Racing host Graham McNeice when he told the Sky Racing audience after the second at Eagle Farm had just finished that $3.00 favourite Danehill Star was "very disappointing".

Well, how disappointing was Danehill Star?

After being a little slow out from barrier nine, instead of settling the four year old horse, jockey Glyn Schofield worked the horse very hard early to not only make up the lost ground, but to settle outside the leader. Danehill Star naturally weakened a little near the end of the race and finished fourth, beaten by 1.8 lengths.

In our opinion that is not "very disappointing". How often when a horse misses the start do l you see Damien Oliver or Scott Seamer work the horse extra hard to settle outside the leader?

Danehill Star has four wins and three seconds from only 13 starts. Be on the alert if trainer Bruce McLachlan puts on someone like Zac Purton, Michael Rodd or Stathi Katsidis next start.
