Flemington Carnival

The first race on the final day of the Flemington Carnival last Saturday, November 11 was the Maribyrnong Plate, a 2YO Group 2 set weights event over 1000 metres. You would think with over 40,000 punters attending the opening market would be reasonable. Well, here it is:

This totals over 153%.

With such tight opening prices it is only natural for horses to ease in the betting ring. It simply reflects the prices becoming more realistic. We really can't expect horses to firm from those opening quotes so we get a market of 200%, now can we?
