Randwick Inner Racetrack

The meeting you have when you don't have a meeting

A poor meeting was held at the Randwick Inner Track last Saturday.
The quality of racing was very ordinary. There were even two 870 metres sprints on the eight race programme. They were restricted to nine runners. It reminds you of the dogs! Their main race, a $75,000 Listed event over 2400 metres was limited to a maximum field of 12 runners.

Anyway, the first of the day was a joke, a 3YO restricted race over 1800 metres. There were only four runners. The short priced $2.25 favourite was Lady Cay. She was up in weight from 54kg. to 57kg. and had low win strike rate jockey, Mitch Newman aboard. She finished last!

Lodgent with top odds of $13.00 available on track was the upset winner. Best tote odds were $10.00. (Outsiders in small fields should be backed with bookmakers, not on the tote). Lodgent, who had been unlucky in recent runs, was tipped to our High Flyer members.

The next race at Randwick, a six horse 870 metres 2YO sprint saw first starter In Good Time sent out the $2.60 favourite. He had every chance to win but finished a well beaten second.

The winner was Victory Vein, another first starter. She had a hard run, outside the leaders, three wide the entire race. Judging by her win, she should have been the favourite. She paid $23.00. So much for money talking in two year old races full of first starters.

The next race, a farcical Open Handicap over 870 metres, was another tough race for punters.

Six year old gelding Majanui was first up since March 31 with top weight of 57kg. He was sent out the equal $4.00 favourite but couldn't handle the hectic pace and finished eighth.

Another six year old gelding, the lightly raced Brisbane visitor, Sundial, who set a track record at Eagle Farm on October 1 over 1000 metres, was the other $4.00 equal favourite. He was badly checked off heels shortly after the start, and as with greyhound racing, that was the end of the race for Sundial.

Warning
Short Priced Tote Favourites

These are losing bets.
Look at the table below and see the percentages lost backing short priced tote favourites compared with bookmaker betting ring prices.

It is just about impossible to get a high enough strike rate backing short priced tote favourites to make up for the big unders on the tote.
If you regularly get poor odds you must lose.
