Bet For Value

What's the common factor about these horses from last Saturday?

Revolting $11.20 first
Participate $9.70 first
Jubilee Song $6.00 first
Gondola $2.60 favourite, unplaced
Veteran $4.00 favourite, third
Philotimo $3.20 favourite, unplaced
Stutter $2.10 favourite, second

Have you worked it out? Yes, they were all trained by John Hawkes.

Revolting won easily first up in the country and last Saturday, taken to Doomben second up, won at big odds.

Participate started at $5.50 when he was beaten by four lengths on July 7. Next start he came out and won at the biggest odds he has ever started at in his seven race career.

Jubilee Song was $2.45 favourite when he was first up from a six months' spell on June 30 . He finished twelfth in the 14 horse field. But last Saturday, at his next start, he won at the best odds available since his surprise first start win two years ago!

Gondola was sent out a short priced favourite, backed in from $3.00 to $2.60 at Doomben on the strength of his close second on July 4. He didn't repeat the effort.

Veteran resumed from a spell of nine months and put in a strong first up run three weeks earlier from barrier 14. He finished a close second behind Price Of Sports. Veteran's starting price was $10.00. He had an ordinary barrier second up - 10, plus a rise in weight from 56.5kg. to 57.5kg. plus a rise in class from a 1MW-LY to a 2MW-LY race. Despite that he was sent out a relatively short priced favourite in the open 11 horse race.

Philotimo had three runs in from a spell in Sydney. Twice he was the beaten favourite. Brought to Melbourne he was heavily supported in the betting ring, firming from $4.20 to $3.20 favourite. He was beaten by over 10 lengths.

Stutter won from a wide barrier by over five lengths at Caulfield at her previous start. On that run she should have been too good last Saturday at Caulfield. But as they say:

"Another short priced Hawkes' horse bites the dust."

You can make money backing John Hawkes' trained horses. Bet smart, avoid most of the short priced favourites and you can do very well.
A quick pick system for backing John Hawkes' trained horses is being sent out with this week's free newsletter.
