Horse Racing Form Analysis

Identifying False Favourites.

As laying horses on Betfair is a very popular form of wagering, being able to consistently identify false favourites can make punters a lot of money.

So let's have a look at an example of a false favourite from Saturday, 8th. June, 2013.

3YO filly Coins was sent out a short priced $3.60 favourite in a 3YO Fillies Rating 78 Handicap at Flemington over 1400 metres. Coins was a poor bet at the odds and clearly a false favourite. Consider these points:

1. Coius was dropping back in distance from 1600 metres to 1400 metres - always a tough ask.

2. Coins had a very average winning strike rate - just 2 wins from 14 race starts.

3. Coins was asked to carry the top weight of 59.5kg. That is a tough ask for a 3YO filly.

4. In addition this was a rise of 3.5kg. from Coins previous start, an unplaced fifth over 1600 metres.

5. Coins never got into the race and finished eleventh in the field of 13, beaten by 6 lengths.
