Bookmaker
Robbie Waterhouse

Here is a very interesting letter that appeared in the Winning Post, Saturday, May 25.

"The only thing Robbie is guilty of is that his name is Waterhouse and that is something he should be proud of. He has nothing to explain to the stewards or anyone else.

If he had no one doubting him in the past he certainly has now, thanks to the stewards informing Australia and everyone else of his past and present business dealings.

When my children ask me who Fine Cotton is, I say he was a ring-in racehorse who is now dead. My children know more about Fine Cotton than about the famous Phar Lap.

Ask people today if they know what Jack The Ripper or Ned Kelly did, and most will no none or only some of it.

Ask do they know what Robbie Waterhouse has done and they will tell you everything from 17 years ago up until today, thanks to the stewards and the media.

Thanks to the stewards, people are inclined to believe (the 500/1 betting) was a tax dodge, not helping a friend that owed him a small fortune. Well I can assure you a friend did owe the Waterhouses a debt.

Robbie is guilty of helping that friend.

Australia, we have all heard of Robbie's assumed bad points, now it's time we listened to the good.

Look at all the employment the family creates, for starters. Imagine the chaos if they turned their backs on their workers.

If racing has been tarnished it certainly wasn't by Robbie Waterhouse. The stewards would be better off holding enquiries into races clashing and ambulances not being available when races are ready to jump, if they are so worried about the public.

As far as the punter is concerned, did anyone else ask Waterhouse for overs that day? Maybe if they had, he might have obliged them too.

If he displayed the odds he would have had to give everyone the odds.

As he is a bookmaker he is a target for the punter who generally has a tendency to ask for overs. The bookies have the privilege to say yes or no.

Everyone at a racetrack is there to win.

Well, enough is enough - come on, Australia, let's get off our backsides and get behind the Waterhouses.

We the public are entitled to give them something back.

Let's hear your view on Robbie's good points - we've all heard the bad.

So if you would like to join the Waterhouse Supporters Club please fax me on 02 6959 1925."
