Talk about poor value odds for the winner. Show A Heart had to start from barrier 18 of 20. He is also best on rain affected tracks. With the Dead rated track drying out, he also did not have his best track conditions. When you have 11 runners finishing within three lengths of each other in a 20 horse race, you know bad luck in running has most likely played its part with a number of the runners. An example was Kingsgate, who started from the barrier 19 and was never on the track. At $31.00 he finished third, beaten by a length. This time Brian York can have a decent excuse for a torrid run. The odds on offer for the favoured horses such as Lord Essex $6.50, Careal Boy $7.00, Falvelon $7.50 and Make Mine Magic $8.50 were all skinny. It was really a race that should have been around $9.00 or $10.00 the field. Talking about odds, I was surprised to hear Keith Hillier on Radio Sport 927 when pointing out that Falvelon would have much preferred a Good rated track add that "On a Good track we'd be looking at $3.00." Max Presnell then added $4.50. No mention from Keith Hillier that $3.00 Falvelon in that 20 horse field would have been poor value odds. . This edition of Punt to Win: Back Tote Longshots?
