Where are Adelaide's jockeys?

Victorian based jockeys completely dominated at Morphettville last Saturday. They won every race. Damien Oliver and Brian Park both rode doubles. Other winners were Brett Prebble, Darren Gauci, Danny Nikolic and Kerrin McEvoy. As if that wasn't bad enough for the locals, the Victorians filled another 11 of the 16 places available for second and third.

Of the local Adelaide jockeys only Jason Holder with a second and third, Chad Lever, Shayne Cahill and Michael Hoppo managed to fill the placings.

That must be food for thought when doing form for the coming big long weekend of racing at Adelaide. Just hope the Adelaide bookies come to the party and offer competitive betting odds.

How's this for a betting tip?

One of the many media experts we heard about last week apparently offered the following advice to punters at Randwick last Saturday.

It was along the lines, "The first four races are all small fields. The favourites are the way to go. They'll be at short odds but they should win."

Not one of the favourites won. Three of the horses clearly did not deserve to be short priced favourites.

This media tipster forgot to point out that Continental Dane for a narrow win in midweek class went up from 56.5kg. to 58kg.

He forgot to point out that Maskerado last raced and won four weeks earlier over 1200 metres, was rising in distance to 1400 metres, going up in weight from 58.5kg. to a hefty 60.5 kg. plus had the disadvantage of barrier six in the seven horse field.

He forgot to point out that Zabarra was rising in weight from 54.5kg. to 57kg. against some smart opposition and would have to give three kilos to Heptonstall who was stakes placed in November last year. Heptonstall won.
