Internet Betting Exchanges
Finally Some Sense!

In direct contrast to the illogical comments of the last few weeks,(7/3/2003 and 14/3/2003 ), we finally saw some intelligent comment about Betting Exchanges.

In Best Bets, March 15, 2003, editor Stephen Moran wrote:

"THE BETFAIR DILEMMA

TABs Australia wide and bookmakers have good reason to be concerned about the explosion of betting activity on the Betfair, and related, websites."

Stephen Moran then pointed out:

That when there was even plenty of interest in an Ipswich Wednesday meeting you know Betting Exchanges are destined to rival the traditional forms of betting.

Stephen Moran then added, "And why wouldn't it!" He then explained that Betfair "...is simply providing a forum for an age old pursuit - that is a rating of chance and wager between any two parties".

That being the case, Stephen Moran thought "it would seem unlikely legislation will come to the rescue of the TABs and bookmakers."

In contrast to recent over the top comments such as arguing that supporters of Betting Exchanges should support illegal SP bookmakers because they did not take out 5% of your winnings and so were even better for punters than Betting Exchanges, Stephen Moran concluded:

"Mind you bookmakers could start betting to 105 per cent and TABs reduce their deductions to five cents in the dollar. Wouldn't that be something!"

Hear! Hear!

Betting Exchanges will thrive because 95% of money bet is returned to the bettors, unlike TABs which only return about 84% for win betting and 80% for exotics betting. With 95% of money bet returned to bettors, Betting Exchanges give many more bettors a realistic chance of making a good profit over the long term.
