Flemington Racetrack
Punters Not Impressed

In Sydney racing the stewards have to be informed when there is a change of riding tacts about to be employed. That way the betting public can be kept informed.

Well, how about using that as a guide and applying it to races down the straight at Flemington?

Last Saturday the rail was out eight metres. The penetrometer readings were Inside 4.07, Outside 4.01. Taken together these factors indicated there was a strong chance the outside was the place to be.

The first race at Flemington was a 2YO Listed race run over 1000 metres down the straight. The Mick Price trained colt Surrogate was sent out second favourite at $4.60. Surrogate started from barrier one and raced on the inside, hard against the rails. Every other runner went to the outside, as they did in future races down the straight.

Surrogate was beaten by nearly eight lengths. Why was the decision made to stay on the inside?

It is fair to say bettors of Surrogate did their money cold. How many of them would have still backed Surrrogate if before the race started they knew that Surrogate would be the only horse racing on the inside of the straight?

It's more than about time the VRC did something positive about these races down the Flemington straight.

Ideally they should be got rid of. But, surely it's not asking too much to at least be told what side of the straight the horse is going to run on? With huge track bias, surely that is just as important to bettors, if not more, than being told of a change in riding tactics in Sydney?

You Need Top Odds

It is just about impossible to get a high enough strike rate backing short priced tote favourites and the poor value tote horses to make up for the big unders on the tote.

If you regularly get poor odds you must lose.
