Favourites lose at the Gold Coast.

Queensland and South Australia Carnival racing regularly produces upset results, often caused by big fields and the mix of horses with form from different states meeting in the same race. So a Slow, rain affected track was the last thing punters needed for the Prime Ministers Cup Carnival meeting at the Gold Coast.

Here is how punters fared backing the favourites:

R1: Persuades, $4.40 - ninth of 14.

R2: We Can't Say That, $3.00 - fourth of 13

R3: Alfonso, $3.80 - eleventh of 15

R4: Foolish, $3.80 - first of 13

R5: Cateclipse, $4.40 - fifth of 17

R6: Perlin, $2.00 - equal second of nine

R7: Roman Arch, $3.00 - second of 13

R8: King Of Spin, $4.60 - second of 13

A not unsurprising result. Just one winner. So did favourites fare any better on Goodwood Handicap Day at Morphettville?

R2: Cobamuse, $6.00 - fourth of 16

R3: Bullmore, $4.00 - fourth of 15

R4: Golden Delicious, $2.80 - second of 11

R5: Sorenstam, $1.90 - tenth of 12

R6: Lions Gate, $5.50 - fourth of 16

R7: Foreplay, $3.40 - last of 20

R8: Nikalapko, $3.30 - fourth of 13

An absolutely dismal result. There were some amazing form reversals. Only one favourite even managed to place!
