Melbourne Cup Tips

How does your Cup horse rate?

Jardines Lookout

No1
55.5kg.
B g 7 yrs
Barrier 12
Jockey - Darryl Holland
Trainer - Alan Jarvis
26 starts, 4-4-3
Last five starts - 6425s
Prizemoney $544,761
Average Prizemoney $20,952
Handles all track conditions.
Melbourne Cup distance - 8 sts. 1-2-0

In last year's Cup Jardine's Lookout settled well back in the field and had a wide run. He ran on late for seventh, and finished 7.2 lengths from the winner.

Jardine's Lookout finished a short head second to Persian Punch in the Group 2 Goodwood Cup over 3219 metres on July 31 this year. Persian Punch has twice placed in the Melbourne Cup. Jardine's Lookout also finished in front of Mamool the start before, but as that race was over 4023 metres it has little relevance to the Cup.

Proven at the distance, Jardine's Lookout must rate a strong chance, though in the English way of training he has not started since August 19.

Mamool

No2
55.5kg.
B h 5 yrs
Barrier 11
Jockey - L Dettori
Trainer - Saeed Bin Suroor
14 starts, 6-2-1
Last five starts - 15311
Prizemoney $1,770,228
Average Prizemoney $126,444
Has won on Good and Dead tracks. Has failed to place in the two races on Slow tracks including being beaten by over 15 lengths in the German Derby. Mamool has never raced on a Heavy rated track.
Melbourne Cup distance - 1 st. 1-0-0

Mamool is coming into this race off two Group 1 wins in Germany where he carried 60kgs. But the fields were only five and eight runners. The horse has a boom on him, but must rate a query in a big field and on a rain affected track.

Mummify

No3
55kg.
B g 4 yrs
Barrier 10
Jockey - Danny Nikolic
Trainer - Lee Freedman
23 starts, 5-6-5
Last five starts - 10218
Prizemoney $2,325,200
Average Prizemoney $101,095
Has only won on Good rated tracks. From seven starts on Dead to Slow rated tracks he has placed three times. Mummify has never raced on a Heavy track.
Melbourne Cup distance - 0 st. 0-0-0

This year's Caufield Cup winner is a major query after finishing a well beaten eighth in the Mackinnon Stakes on Saturday. Danny Nikolic eased the gelding down believing something was amiss. Track conditions also may not suit.

Millstreet

No4
54.5kg.
Ch h 5 yrs
Barrier 23
Jockey - Patrick Payne
Trainer - Saeed Bin Suroor
14 starts, 2-7-2
Last five starts - 4s625
Prizemoney $189,989
Average Prizemoney $13,570
Handles Good and Dead tracks. Has never raced on Slow or Heavy tracks.
Melbourne Cup distance - 0 st. 0-0-0

The second string runner of teh Godolphin team to Mamool. However it doesn't always pan out that their favoured runner finishes in front, with recent placegetters being Give The Slip and Central Park.

Millstreet's last win, five starts ago in October last year was a 2414 Listed race in Ireland. He hasn't raced since September 12. However first up in June this year over 2400 metres he was only beaten 1.8 lengths in Group 1 Weight for Age company in France, where he led to the home turn and did carry 61kg.

Local jockey Patrick Payne, who will ride Millstreet, is a top rider of leaders. Provided Millstreet doesn't have to work too hard from the barrier, Millstreet might give them something to catch.
