TAB Limited's Spinner Bet

Did you see their home page banner promotion for "Spinner"?

It tells you, "Spinner coupla bucks for an easy win!" If it's such an easy win when someone is silly enough to "Spinner coupla bucks" then isn't it an easy loss for TAB Limited? Hmmnnn.

On Monday, June 30 TAB Ltd. also tempted people with the following:

"Spinner, the new way to have a bet on the horses, trots or dogs, has already produced some big dividends. The largest to date was recorded on a harness event where EVENS paid a massive $84.20, not bad for a three horse race!"

Did TAB Limited tell you where and when that harness event was held and even more importantly the size of the pool? Was it $200 or even less? Did the few small punters in what must have been a statistical aberration bet "mixed" and "odds"? Was say just $2 bet on evens? What would have happened to that $84.20 dividend if you had just bet $20 on "evens"?

If TAB Limited wants to promote Spinner as a "three horse race", then it's worth noting that "mixed" most of the time pays odds on - well below $2.00. Now TAB Limited, you would have to admit that is not a good dividend for "a three horse race"?

We wonder how long it will take TAB Limited get rid of "Spinner"?

If you seriously want to play a simple numbers game go to your casino and back 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36. You are guaranteed a dividend of $3.00 every time. And in Australia there is only one zero in the wheel out of the 37 numbers to reduce your payout below the true odds. With "Spinner" there would be the equivalent of about eight zeros.
