Carnival Horse Racing
Value Betting Odds

Spring Carnival racing is well and truly here. Races are already having an early affect on the Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup betting markets.

It is absolutely essential to get genuine value with your bets. Many horses going around as $4.00 favourites in fields of 15 runners are well under their true winning chances.

Have a look at some of the horses that went around as beaten favourites last Saturday:

Caulfield:

Ribe - $4.00 in a 3YO Fillies Open. She had barrier 12 of 12 over the 1410 metres. The track was Good. Very few of the runners had disclosed Good track form. That makes for a trap race. Jockey Damien Oliver is not a miracle worker. Ribe finished midfield.

La Serenade - $4.20 in a very open mares event. She was given every chance, but finished well down the track, tenth of thirteen.

Gypsy Lad - $3.00 in a field of 15. With nine runners resuming from a spell over the 1410 metres, you're asking for trouble taking $3.00 about the favourite. Sure, most of the runners resuming were stayers, but isn't 1400 metres an ideal first up distance, a distance where plenty of stayers win first up?

Prince Rubiton - $4.00 in a field of 15 over 1100 metres. A crazy price. Ten of the runners were first up over an ideal sprint distance. Crystal Finale, one of the first up brigade, blew punters away, winning at tote odds of over $40.00.

Bidaily - $4.20. Hardly generous in a listed event over 1700 metres. He had barrier 14 of 15 and was up against some very smart runners. Bidaily finished sixth.

You Need Top Odds

It is just about impossible to get a high enough strike rate backing short priced tote favourites and the poor value tote horses to make up for the big unders on the tote.

If you regularly get poor odds you must lose.

Short priced tote favourites
are losing bets.
