Flemington Racetrack

Midweek track bias - punters wiped out

How long will it be before Flemington, the home of the Melbourne Cup, gets their racetrack right? Take a look at the midweek meeting held there last Wednesday, July 31.

The rail was out 10 metres. The track was rated Good. The penetrometer readings were pretty close for both the inside and outside. There shouldn't have been any problems. So what happened?

The first race of the day was a restricted 2YO fillies event over 1000 metres down the Flemington straight. There were 12 runners. Punters wouldn't have wanted to be on the $3.50 favourite, Wasabi Miss. They won the race, but got beaten out of sight.

Down the outside of the track came the $11.50 winner, Edgeton. And the next six fillies to finish with She's Got Charm finishing seventh, 3.8 lengths behind the winner.

Then came the fillies who had the bad luck to draw barriers one to five, led by $3.50 favourite Wasabi Miss, 3.5 lengths behind the last horse to finish on the outside, She's Got Charm and 7.3 lengths behind the winner.

Wasabi Miss convincingly won the race on the inside by two lengths.

The rest of the meeting on that track was no better for punters. Winners came from anywhere with another five at big double figure odds.

We gave the Flemington meeting the treatment it deserved. Not one race was rated.

Punters, it's no use complaining about the track after you have bet and lost your money. Act. We all know what the solution is. If punters refused to bet on just one race down the Flemington straight there'd be a quick response. If punters dramatically reduced the size of their bets at Flemington there'd be a quick response.
