Horse racing betting tips:

Gai Waterhouse under the microscope:

We always find it interesting and illuminating seeing how Gai Waterhouse's horses performed on a Saturday and the conclusions that can be drawn from the betting on them.

So here we go having a look at her runners at Randwick last Saturday:

R1 - 1400 metres. Matador resumed. The 4YO gelding firmed from $4.20 to $3.70 and finished third of seven.

R2 - 1600 metres. Palabiro firmed from $8.00 to $6.50 and finished fourth of seven. The 4YO mare was dropping back from 2000 metres to 1600 metres with a break of three weeks between races. Palabiro was contesting a Listed Handicap. Her best city wins were Mares Class 6 races - restricted mares handicaps!

R3 - 2000 metres. Cross Bar firmed from $5.50 to $5.00 and finished eighth of ten. The 4YO was third up and jumping in distance from 1500 metres to 2000 metres.

R4 - 1200 metres. 2YO gelding Turfiste, in Group 3 company, had his first start after some strong trial form. He eased from $9.00 to $11.00 and finished fifth of ten.

R5 - 1200 metres. 2YO filly Tuesday Joy, in Group 3 company, was having her second race. Two weeks earlier at Rosehill, in a 2YO Fillies Open, starting at $6.00, she was beaten only 1.7 lengths over the same distance. There was a little nibble for her at $26.00 on Saturday. She started at $21.00 and finished second, beaten a half head by Universal Queen.

R7 - 1600 metres. The 3YO filly Beauty Watch started at $21.00 in the 3YO Group 1 Randwick Guineas and finished ninth of 13. The filly went into the race after three runs from a spell. Her recent form was better than it looked on paper. She also had a second by a long neck to Fashions Afield in the 3YO Fillies Group 1 Flight Stakes at Randwick in October last year as a positive form reference.

R8 - 1200 metres. Wonderer eased to start at $14.00 when resuming in a Mares Listed Handicap. The mare had the good strike rate of five wins from 14 starts and two wins from two starts at the track. Wonderer won the race.

R9 - 1100 metres. Strada firmed from $5.00 to start at $4.20. The lightly raced 3YO colt was second up, having won first up two weeks earlier over the same distance. Strada won the race.
