Randwick Horse Racing Meeting

What a betting trap for punters!

The race meeting held last Saturday, 23rd. June, was an absolute trap meeting for punters.

1. The previous two Saturday meetings had been abandoned without a race being run due to the state of the track. This meant many Saturday class horses had missed out on a scheduled run and there wee added race fitnness queries.

2. We had a very Heavy track.

3. To give punters an even better chance of losing their money there were ten races scheduled instead of the nomal eight or nine!

Punters did not fare well.

Only $2.70 favourite Cravings, which was backed in from $3.00 on track, won. Tote punters got as low as $2.10. No wonder one state only social tote punters stand little chance of even breaking anywhere near even backing short priced favourites.

How did the other favourites go?

1. Easy Step $4.40 3/8
2. Zeagle Eagle $2.90 3/10
3. Humma $2.80 5/9
4. Flushing Meadows $3.70 4/12
5. Hunters Host $3.50 5/12
6. Only He Knows $3.80 10/12
7. Blessus $6.00 6/11
8. Viewed $3.60 2/12
9. Go Cart $2.60 4/12

What a sorry tale. It should be quite apparent that taking short odds on Saturday was inviting disaster.

The day was topped off for punters with these winners in the last two races:

1. Phantom Agent $30.80 best tote
2. Zedaction $73.60 best tote. $91.00 available on track!

The big advantage punters have is deciding when to bet and what odds to take. There is nothing wrong with leaving most races or even the entire meeting alone.

Because that is what successful punters who make some money over the long term do.

When the races become too challenging smart punters don't insist on "having a go". When the odds on horses they like become too short smart punters don't take them for fear of missing a winning bet. Because they know that over the long term taking those poor odds will lose money.

Plenty of punters last Saturday decided to take on the ten races at Randwick, because "there has to be a winner in each race." Most are now out of pocket.
